Specs and suitability
Are refurbished laptops good for students and online classes?

Refurbished laptops are an excellent fit for students, and online classes in particular require nothing that a well-chosen refurbished machine cannot handle comfortably. For video calls, note-taking, assignments and streaming lectures, a 10th or 11th Gen i5 with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD is more than sufficient. Students on tighter budgets can go with an 8th Gen i5 and still have a smooth experience. The value case is strong: the same budget that buys a basic new entry-level laptop often gets you a business-grade refurbished ThinkPad or EliteBook with better build quality, keyboard and display. At Edify, refurbished laptops ship with Windows 11 Pro pre-installed and a 12-month hardware warranty, so there is no immediate out-of-pocket risk if something goes wrong. For engineering or design students running heavier software, 16GB RAM is the better choice.
