Refurbished vs new vs used
Refurbished vs second-hand: which is better for a student?

For a student, a certified refurbished laptop is almost always the better choice over a second-hand unit bought from an individual seller. The distinction matters: second-hand means one person selling to another with no quality testing, no warranty and no invoice. Certified refurbished means a business has tested the device against documented standards, replaced faulty components, and is backing it with a formal warranty and return policy. Students typically need a device that works reliably for 2 to 3 years across coursework, assignments and video calls. A second-hand laptop with an undisclosed battery problem or a failing storage drive will cost more in repairs than the upfront savings. A certified refurbished Dell, HP or Lenovo from a seller like Edify, with a 12-month hardware warranty and GST invoice, gives a student the price advantage of the refurbished market without the uncertainty of a peer-to-peer transaction.
