Seller trust and provenance
What are the most common refurbished laptop scams in India, and how do I avoid them?

The most common refurbished laptop scams in India involve misrepresented specs, tampered serial numbers, stolen units, and sellers who vanish after payment with no warranty backup. On Instagram and OLX, listings frequently show inflated RAM or processor specs that do not match the actual device. Stolen units are another serious risk since serial-number checks can flag them, and you may face complications owning one. To protect yourself: always verify the serial number independently on the manufacturer's website before paying, insist on a GST-compliant invoice, and buy only from sellers who publish clear warranty terms and have an accessible support channel. At Edify, warranty cover is valid only on units with intact serial numbers, which means tampered or stolen units are structurally excluded from the supply chain. A certified seller with documented sourcing is your strongest defence against being scammed.
