How do I verify a refurbished laptop is genuine before buying?

Saurabh Vyas

Co-founder, Edify GSC: how to check refurbished laptop, Edify

To verify a refurbished laptop is genuine before buying, run a short checklist. One, buy from a registered company that issues a GST-compliant invoice, not an anonymous listing. Two, confirm a written warranty (12 months is a strong signal) and a clear return policy. Three, ask for the exact configuration (model, processor generation, RAM, storage) and check it matches the listing. Four, confirm the operating system is genuine and freshly installed. Five, ensure the previous owner's data is wiped and the serial number is intact and not blacklisted. Six, look for a documented quality-check process. After delivery, verify the specs on the device itself (System Information on Windows), check battery health, and test the ports, keyboard and camera within your return window. Edify covers all of this by default: a GST invoice, 12-month warranty, 14-day return, a 31-category Final Quality Check and freshly reinstalled software, so verification is built into the purchase rather than left to you.
